Erin Cramer
I make paper from natural fibers and use it as a sculpting medium.

Handmade paper’s seductive versatility allows me to create light weight works of art that look like they are made out of anything from concrete to skin.

The fibers I use to make paper include flax, hemp, wheat straw, cotton, abaca, kozo, gampi, esparto, recycled clothing, and recycled scrap papers.

In addition to paper sculpture, I also create soft sculpture, artists books, fine book bindings, masks, animatronics, short stories, altered toys, performance art, prints, paintings, costumes, poetry, handmade books, and drawings.

Most of my creations work alone as objects or together in various installations.

It is important to me to create accessible work and I rarely make an artwork that cannot be interacted with in some way.

Running themes through out my work include a high tactile quality, humor, spirituality, interactivity, the natural and the built environment, and irony.
